Liberland continues to seek recognition
The most important members of the European Commission have recently discussed the micronation known as the Free Republic of Liberia. The seven-square-kilometer area on the banks of the Danube in 2015 was claimed by a group of people who believe in libertarian ideologies. The president of Liberland, Vít Jedlička, and the citizens of the small country confess that no nation claims the land for themselves. Since then, the group has been fighting to be recognized by the rest of the world leaders, following the protocol of Terra Nullius. Seven months ago, Liberland presented its case to the members of the European Parliament in order to be recognized as a sovereign nation-state. So far, the region has gathered over 550,000 applicants who want to be citizens of Liberland.
Now micronation has been recognized in a parliamentary question recently asked on 31 January on the country between Croatia and Serbia. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission (EC), said Liberland, also known as Gornja Siga, "needs further clarification." President Juncker's comments were the answer to a question from a Member of the European Parliament in the West Midlands region , Bill Etheridge. The question asked whether the Liberland area is part of the European Union. Etheridge is also known for his confident libertarian beliefs. In the eyes of the citizens of Liberland Juncker's statement seemed to honor the negotiations between Croatia and Serbia. The micronation believes that the EC President's comment is a step in the right direction for the "global recognition" of a voluntary government.
"This is an extremely important development and represents a real step forward for us," said Vit Jedlička, President of the Free Republic of Liberia, after the comment of the EC President.
We are one step closer to knowing that it may not be an EU territory and that it can become an independent sovereign state.
Cryptocurrency, DAOs and an Open Source Linear TV
Liberland continues to be heavily involved in the diffusion of decentralized and innovative new technologies such as cryptocurrencies. The official website of the Free Republic of Liberia states that in a world characterized by over-taxation and overregulation, the country's citizens believe that they support forward-looking technologies such as cryptocurrencies and systems integrated into DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).
The region has also been accepting digital currencies for funding for years, and the mini-state uses currencies such as Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin Core (BTC). On February 10th, Bitcoin entrepreneur Roger Ver said on social media that Liberland "was funded more with Bitcoin cash than any other cryptocurrency." Guy."
In addition, the region is in the process of setting up Liberland's first private linear broadcast service (Liber TV) (Online TV). The platform was launched by one of the founders of Liberland, Jiří Kreibich, and the application is open source and runs in its early stages. Overall, the world's third-smallest nation state continues to make progress to be recognized by the world's leading politicians.
